There are moments in life that leave a lasting positive mark on your soul, and my recent experience photographing the Miss World Eskimo-Indian Olympics (WEIO) candidates was one such instance. It wasn't just a photoshoot; it was a celebration of culture, a connection with incredible individuals, and above all, a whole lot of fun!
Our backdrop was the Botanical Gardens in Fairbanks, Alaska. Think lush greenery, blooming flowers, and an atmosphere brimming with tranquility. The vibrant colors of the gardens contrasted beautifully with the striking attire of the Miss WEIO candidates, creating a beautiful series of images.
The most rewarding aspect of this photoshoot was the deep connection I felt with the candidates. Each one of them carried a unique story, a distinct cultural heritage, and an inspiring vision for their future. I was not just capturing their images. I was highlighting their spirit, their aspirations, and their proud legacy as representatives of their cultures. Their traditional attire, each meticulously crafted and reflecting the richness of different Alaska Native cultures, showcased clothing woven with threads of history and tradition.
Each portrait is a testament to the strength, beauty, and resilience of Alaska Native women.
Being part of the Miss WEIO journey was an absolute honor. It reminded me of why I fell in love with photography in the first place. It's not just about taking pictures; it's about capturing moments and connecting with people on a profound level. This experience has been a memorable addition to my photographic journey, and I am excited to see where these paths lead next.
To the Miss WEIO candidates, thank you for sharing your stories and allowing me to capture your spirit through my lens.
